Celebrating 5 Years of Caring for Hill County

On August 1, 2020, in the middle of a global pandemic, a vision became reality. Raji Kumar, CEO of Hill Regional Hospital, believed deeply in the importance of having a strong community hospital serving Hill County. Five years later, that commitment has only grown stronger.
“Our heartfelt thanks continue to go out to this community for believing in us,” said Ms. Kumar. “From the very beginning, our goal has been to keep quality healthcare close to home. The trust our patients place in us every day means everything.”
Five Years of Growth and Commitment
When Raji took over Hill Regional, her mission was clear: bring comprehensive, compassionate healthcare back to Hillsboro and the surrounding communities. Over the past five years, that mission has expanded in meaningful and lasting ways. One of the most impactful additions has been the launch of the REVIVE medically assisted detox program. This inpatient program provides 24/7 medical supervision for individuals beginning recovery from substance dependence. It reflects Hill Regional’s commitment to caring not only for physical health, but also for the emotional and behavioral health needs of the community.
Recognizing the growing need for specialized musculoskeletal care, the hospital has also welcomed two highly skilled physicians to campus. Spine specialist Dr. Battle now serves patients seeking advanced diagnosis and treatment for back and spine conditions. Orthopedic specialist Dr. Oronoz brings expertise in treating joint, bone, and sports related injuries, helping patients regain mobility and return to the activities they love.
In addition, Hill Regional established its own comprehensive Pain Management program under the leadership of Dr. Azeem. This program focuses on improving quality of life for patients living with acute and chronic pain through individualized treatment plans and coordinated care.
National Recognition for Nursing Excellence
As the hospital celebrates five years, there is special pride in the recognition received by its nursing team. Hill Regional’s nursing staff was awarded a 5 Star rating in the Becker’s Hospital National Review. This distinction reflects the dedication, compassion, and clinical excellence that nurses demonstrate every day. Administrator and CFO Susan Popp shared, “When you walk through our halls, you feel the positivity. You see teamwork. You see compassion. Our nurses are at the heart of that culture, and this recognition is well deserved.”
Building on a Strong Foundation
Many of the initiatives launched during the first year continue to thrive today. Specialty care services have expanded. The Specialty Care Clinic remains a vital resource for Hill County. Radiology advancements such as 3 D mammography and DEXA bone density scanning remain essential tools for early detection and prevention.
From new physicians to expanded services, the hospital’s focus has remained consistent: listen to the community, take care of our neighbors, and respond with action.
Looking Ahead
Five years ago, Hill Regional stepped forward during one of the most uncertain times in recent history. Today, the hospital stands stronger than ever, grounded in its mission and grateful for the trust of Hill County families.
“We are just getting started,” said Ms. Kumar. “Healthcare is always evolving, and so are we. Our commitment is to continue growing, improving, and serving this community with excellence.”
